I Fell Off The Wagon

I am confessing, I fell off the wagon - My Diet Wagon.  Since John returned from his trip last Thursday, I ate pizza, I drank a bottle of wine, and I stopped walking routinely.  Only one of those has to do with John - the pizza.  Last Friday and Sunday he wanted to order pizza for dinner.  I looked over the menu trying to figure which would be the least damaging - is that possible?  It was our 19 year anniversary, not that it gave me any reason to fall off the wagon.  Well, that's the bad news.

The good news is John bought us anniversary presents.  We both have new phones.  One of John's coworkers that he traveled with last week had a new Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless.  He was showing John all the features (love the Google Map!).  Needless to say, with the unlimited data plan we have and being on month-to-month billing, we knew we could get a deal by signing up again for another two years of service, and so we did.  I'm not much of a gadget person, but this has some great features, like being able to listen to the radio -- on a phone!  I suppose I'm showing my age now.

John was looking for a portable computer to take with him on trips so he could check his work and home emails and could handle MS Office documents that he has to download.  He went (on his own :) to Best Buy and came home with this, the HP Notebook.  He's confident this will do the job.

Another purchase made this long weekend (or  his vacation, whichever) is a new beer fridge.  We have two refrigerators in our garage.  One is for sodas and kitchen refrigerator overflow, the other is his beer fridge, which was given to us by his Mom when she bought a new refrigerator.  It was on it's last leg then, I think it is dying a slow death.  I have been leaking for months.  We keep an old towel folded at the bottom of the refrigerator to soak up the leakage.  The small leak has turned into a mighty river, more than the old towel can handle anyway.  So we ended up at Sears because Lowe's didn't have the model we wanted in stock and delivered this week.  Our new beer fridge will be delivered Thursday.  This means everything in the current leaky one has to be emptied Wednesday night coinciding with putting the trash out.  Perfect time to check date of frozen food that needs to be tossed - you know, those frozen pizzas for one?

We had a great 4th of July weekend.  I see from visiting my fellow bloggers, you did too.  Although it was over 90 degrees, we grilled cheeseburgers and hot dogs, yes for just the two of us.  The ground beef was 93/7 and the hot dogs were 97% fat free, whole wheat rolls for both and reduced fat cheese.  I tried to make it as healthy as possible.  It was a beautiful day, check out the plane trails in the sky, someone was having fun flying around.

One night, we sat outside on the front porch.  We lit the bug candles (full of citronella oil) relaxed for awhile until the humidity got to be too much.  John needed relaxation, since he spent several hours on Monday mowing.

Lastly, I have one more observance, today is my two year anniversary of quitting smoking.  When I mentioned it to John, he replied "I'm very proud of you".  Although it cost me a huge weight gain, I wasn't prepared for, I'm glad I did it.  Honestly, I never thought I would, I was a tobacco addict, 35 years at almost two packs a day, nasty.  Chantix helped me get past the nicotine cravings.  Now, I hear on the news Chantix causes heart disease.  I used it two years ago for 8 weeks, I'm still here.  This brings me full circle to getting back on the wagon.

I'm committed to getting this weight off.  I just have to figure out what routine works best for me.  I loved walking in the spring, when there wasn't any heat and humidity.  I've been struggling with walking since the beginning of June, only walking on the days when the humidity was low.  I been using the exercise ball and jump rope, but not faithfully, another confession.  Again, I need to get back on the wagon.  I think it will be easier also when John isn't here all day (he's on vacation this week).  While I don't mind going for a walk when he is home, I do mind exercising in front of him.  That said, I'll figure out something that works for me.  I have to remember, I didn't put the weight on overnight, it isn't going to come off overnight.  I have to motivate myself....again.

Happy Anniversary!!
I really think pizza gets a bad rap. I eat it at LEAST once a week and it doesn't seem to bother me. I do only eat 2 pieces and its just a cheese pizza.
Just get back on the wagon. You will slip up sometimes, it's no big deal. Just don't give up. You can do it. Could you walk earlier in the morning when it's still pretty cool? Or can you get to a pool and swim laps? That would certainly keep you cool.
Congratulations on not smoking for two years!! That's great.

Thanks Happyone for the comments. It always helps to hear from you when I'm struggling. Cheese pizza is okay, huh? I thought cheese is bad. The county has an indoor pool, they charge, $8 a day. I'll at least look into it, great idea, thanks.

I agree. Dont worry about that stupid wagon. I slipped big time myself this morning. I had to get lab work which I hate so afterwards I stopped at MacDonnlds and got an egg macmuffin and hash browns. Man those hash browns were good. Tomorrow is another day.

Happy Anniversary

As a fellow sufferer with excess weight, I do know that it's all about getting back on the program when you've allowed yourself to enjoy a holiday. I say that there's nothing wrong with that so don't kick yourself. Just carry on from here. I'm also not calling it a diet anymore. Nope. It's a choose something better plan or whatever, but it is not a diet. Exercise is my problem...I don't like to sweat. I have read that it is the heat that helps burn calories so swimming doesn't use up as many as one might think. Still, swimming...what's not to love about cool water on a hot day? Oh, I just remembered that my roommate from college lost 50 pounds swimming one year. That was years and years ago and she's still trim.

Thank you RK and Vee for your support, it certainly helps with the guilt. I'll keep going, just have to rebuild my motivation. It is getting easier to make healthy eating choices, the difficult part is the exercising in this heat, I've got to keep moving.

Hi, it's me again. I live with no food off limits. I always say I eat whatever I want just not as much of it as I would like. : )
Cheese is fine if you don't eat a whole lot of it. It really is all about portion control.
I've actually written a webpage on how I stay thin. It is on my side bar if you care to read it (Lose Weight for Good.)

Hi Happyone, I went over to your blog and took a look at the webpage you mentioned (Lose Weight For Good). I haven't read everything, I'll take a closer look tonight. I wanted to thank you for pointing it out to me. There is so much out on the internet about weight loss, some of it is conflicting. During my journey, I'm going to stick with swiss cheese, it is suppose to be lowest in calories. We still have our Friday night pizza night, usually I put a Newman's Own frozen pizza in the oven (occasionally we order delivery). I usually stick to two pieces, unless I haven't eaten much that day. I am limiting my portions and trying to eat healty snacks every couple of hours like a peach, banana, or some grapes. I make sure I'm well stocked in the fruit department, just for snacking. Again, many thanks for the tips!

I love getting new gadgets. I'd be lost without my iPhone! And I love pizza, and it's ok to fall off the wagon as long as you don't take too long to get back on it. It's such a struggle!

Quitting smoking is one of the things I'm most proud of as it was the hardest thing I ever did. Happy Anniversary!

Huge congrats on your 2 year anniversary of not smoking. I was a 2 sometimes 3 pack a day smoker as well. I smoked for over 18 years(it has been 4 years since I quit now) and enjoyed it so much , it really was a stress reliever for me from both work and home. I never wanted to quit , never gave it much thought.I am SO happy that I did though. I thank my kids and their constant nagging at me for this. I also put some weight on after I quit. I am still trying to find that perfect balance , I think it is just different with everybody and what works for one might not work for another.
