Today was the interview in Manassas, Virginia, about 10 miles west from where I live, a 20 minute drive. It is an Information Technology (IT) company dealing with computer security. They are a government contractor and woman owned. I know this because I was interviewed by the President of the company this morning. The company has been in business for 16 years with approximately 50 people onboard to date. The function of Human Resources has been handled by the VP of Operations and the President of the company. They want someone full time to assume the Human Resources duties. I was the sole HR person for a company about 20 years ago that started up in 1987. I was employee number 8 when I joined that company in 1988. There were five men and me. I did everything from answer the phones to fix the copier to explain the benefits and collect timesheets (paper timesheets, imagine!) and process payroll. It is a huge undertaking, especially going through the growing pains. The startup company 20 years ago eventually reached 450 employees with three US offices and one office in London. It was fun twenty years ago. We went through the pains together. It will certainly be a challenge this time as well. They interviewed last week and continue to interview this week, apparently, they had an overwhelming response (imagine that in this economy!). I will be informed either way about the position by next Monday - Wish me luck! Here is the building where the company is located on the 4th floor.
Leave it to me to have one of the hottest days of the summer for an interview, right? If that sun looks glaring and hot in the reflection at the top of the building, it certainly was. My interview was for 11am, it was 91 degrees. We reached 97 degrees today here in Northern Virginia with a heat index of 102. We missed the record (98 degrees) by two degrees that the Weathermen were so excited about breaking. I'm sure there will be more record breakers this summer, it has not been as hot as last summer, but it is still hotter than it has been in past summers. Last summer was the hottest summer in a few years, I hope we don't surpass it. This heatwave is suppose to break tomorrow and Thursday-Saturday will have temps in the low 80s and no humidity - WOOHOO!!
I was disappointed I accidentally broke my pedometer changing clothes when I got home from the interview. It had slipped off my slacks and it had fallen onto the floor where I stepped on it. The plastic clip that surrounds it, snapped in pieces. I have another one on order from Amazon which looks to be much better. Also, the trainer who is with us on our Saturday group walks suggested I get a heart rate monitor to determine my regular heartbeat while walking. I splurged and bought one of those too. I paid for express shipping too to get it quickly. I've become a creature of habit with that thing, very diligently recording my daily numbers. In the meantime, (don't laugh!) I have the old one scotched tape to my shorts to see if it still works - it does! Although, it does look odd. I also have to remove the tape to read the numbers, which wouldn't work well anyway.
My best friend is visiting for a few days while John is gone. I'm anxious and excited. We're like a couple of giddy teenagers most of the time we're together. She arrives tomorrow morning from Annapolis, Maryland, hopefully staying until Saturday. I know we'll have some adventures for upcoming posts!

Hope this job will be the one. Good luck!!
Have a fun time with your visiting friend!
This mornings walk for me felt a lot cooler than yesterdays. : )
Right, "Imagine it in this economy." Sounds as if you have a lot of experience with this kind of thing. If it's the one, it'll be yours no matter how many people are looking for work. One thing is sure...you've been doing your part.
Have great fun with your friend. I hope you two have a blast!
I love my pedometer, but I have been off wearing it recently. Got to get back on track with that.
